Halcyra began with a derelict sail loft, a stubborn architect and a family that wanted to open the kind of hotel they would travel for.
We spent four years restoring the loft with 38 local craftspeople.
The result is a small hotel with the bones of a working building: iron hooks, sail-cloth curtains, rope handrails and windows shaped like the arches of the old harbour.
Every guest has one host from booking to goodbye, with a name and a phone number.
Solar roof, no single-use plastic, and 2% of every night to the harbour trust.
Our suppliers are within 60 km, from the fish market to the linen weaver.
Blackout, silence and a pillow menu. We measure success in lie-ins.
A rope and sail maker builds a warehouse on the harbour.
The loft becomes a boat store and, briefly, a dance hall.
Four years, 38 craftspeople and every original beam saved.
Halcyra welcomes its first guests with 36 rooms.
Two sister stays open on Lagoon Bay and in the mountains.

“We came for one night and extended to four. The garden suite, the breakfast figs, the quiet: everything felt considered.”
“The rooftop pool at sunset is worth the trip alone. Staff remembered our coffee order by the second morning.”
“A proper city hotel with the soul of a guesthouse. The concierge's handwritten map got us to the best dinner of the year.”
Rooms from $189 a night, breakfast in the courtyard and the whole harbour on the doorstep.
